The Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Texas is dedicated to encouraging the study of communication through concomitant commitments to education, research and scholarship, outreach activities, and service. We actively foster academic freedom and open communication in each of our activities. An integral part of our mission, therefore, is to insure that activities conducted with undergraduate and graduate students serve to instill an appreciation from the confluence of education and scholarship. A second part of our mission is to encourage research and scholarship that contribute knowledge and understanding to the lives of our students, our university, our profession, and our communities. A third part of our mission is to facilitate an interactive partnership with the community at-large by seeking to establish ties with agencies that and individuals who can assist us in furthering the goals of education. A fourth part of our mission is to translate our expertise into serving university, professional, and nonacademic communities. Further, we regard the goals of supporting a culturally, racially, and ethnically diverse environment and advocating mutual respect for all members of our society as especially befitting our mission.
