Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed's Research Projects!

Assistant professor Dr. Ahmed is currently working on two large research projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation concerning the evolution of virtual organizations as a social technology system and the role communication plays throughout this process. The first project, VOSS: Research on the process of development of virtual research environments, began in 2012 and is expected to be completed sometime this year. Dr. Ahmed’s second project is titled GECAT: Global initiative to enhance better scale and distributed computing and analysis technologies to address grand challenge problems around the world. This research began last year and is expected to last five years.

In the department, Dr. Ahmed's new class COMM 3820, Social Media Perspectives, is currently in its second semester and has been causing a lot of buzz. Students critically examine the relationship between individual and society as mediated by communication technology. Dr. Ahmed is proud of this course’s success and of the practical value his course provides the students with skills they can use in their future organizational and employment endeavors.

We are so proud and fortunate to have such an ambitious professor representing the Communication Studies Department!
