UNT Debate Wins at TCU!

Last weekend was TCU's homecoming, and while the horned frogs upset the Longhorns on the gridiron, Horned Frogs,Sooners, Mustangs, and Aggies were all upset by the Mean Green at the Podium!

TCU hosted its "For the Sake of Argument" debate and speech tournament in which UNT Debaters Abe Hester, Sophomore Political Science major, and Garrett Hester, Sophomore Political Science and Communication Studies major, took first place in the tournament by beating TCU's top team in the final round. UNT Debaters Megan Hill and Tyler Holiman and Derrian Doblado and Maggie McGehee also competed at the tournament which had participants from Texas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Florida.

Hester and Hammonds posted wins over Oklahoma, and TCU in the Prelims, and then waded through three different TCU teams in the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals eventually to be named champions. Other competitors included Texas A & M, the University of Kentucky, the University of Oklahoma, Valdosta State University the University of Louisiana, Lafayatte, and Southern Methodist University.

UNT Debate has also returned to competitive speech events. After just one week we have some success to mention. Abe Hester who broke in Impromptu at his first outing at Rice, took 6th place in Impromptu at TCU and Garrett Hester not only broke but finished second in Poetry.

This week is Homecoming at UNT and UNT Debate is celebrated by facing our International Rivals, the British National Debate Team. UNT will debate the British on October 9th at 3:30pm in Sage 116. Come support the Mean Green, come support UNT Debate.
