Jenna Reneau | Communication Studies

Jenna Reneau

Jenna Reneau anticipates graduation this coming May while also finishing strong in her academics. In addition to her full-time academic workload, Jenna works as a referee for both high school and college basketball. Jenna’s passion for basketball started at a very young age, playing all through middle and high school. She started officiating volleyball games at 16 then transitioned to basketball when she started college. Jenna explained that refereeing basketball is a career she desires to pursue after college, saying, “…I am very passionate about the sport and it is something I exceed at.” Jenna stated that her Communication studies degree has allowed her to manage interactions with coaches, players, and other parties involved at games. She also credits her communication success to Dr. Richardson’s course, Communication & Conflict Management because she learned how to properly manage interactions with people of different backgrounds and ages. Because basketball games sometimes provoke intense situations, Jenna said the ability to communicate is vital.

When talking about her personal life, Jenna stated that her Communication Studies has helped her tremendously. It has allowed her to better understand and manage her interaction with people, especially coaches who exceed her in age and years of experience. Overall, Jenna described that her Communication Studies degree has helped her to be “…aware of positive communication styles and not engaging in a negative conversation…” Throughout this year, Jenna will attend multiple division 1 camps and a NBA/WNBA camp this year!
