The UNT Communication Studies Black Box Theatre, located in GAB 321, is a laboratory for creative research and performance. The space houses Performance Studies classes, group meetings, group performances, and student rehearsals. Additionally, the Black Box hosts a full season of featured performances that are open to the UNT & Denton Community.

We are happy to make the COMM Studies Black Box available to anyone in the UNT community who needs a space to do creative work! We welcome faculty/students/orgs across campus to use the space. Please note, scheduling priority will be given to COMM Studies classes, faculty, featured performances and students orgs.
Before filling out a reservation request, please check the Black Box calendar to see whether the time you would like to reserve is available. Reservation requests must be made at least 2 business days (48 hours) in advance. Any weekend reservations must be made at least 3 business days (72 hours) in advance.

Steps to Reserve the Black Box
- Check the Black Box calendar to see whether the time you would like to reserve is available.
- Review the rules and policies in the tabs below.
- Fill out the reservation form with all required information.
Black Box Theatre Rules
- Do NOT touch or use any of the tech, lights, sound, or projection. At All. Ever.
- Do not put chalk/paint/glitter/oil on the floor, the walls, the ceiling, or the chairs.
- No food or drink (or anything else that might attract ants/bugs/critters) is allowed in the space.
- Do NOT drag boxes, flats, etc. on the Black Box floor.
- Return all chairs/boxes/tables to their proper location before you leave.
- Make sure all trash is picked up and disposed of correctly.
- Respect the space. We encourage fun, but please be careful. The space and its condition is precious. We need you to take care of it.
- You are responsible for any damage done to the space during your reservation. Failure to adhere to these policies will result in you/your group losing access to the space in the future.
Reservation Policy & Key Borrowing Terms
- Your reservation assumes that you will be checking out a key to the Black Box.
- You must check out the key at the Department of Communciation Studies front office, located at GAB 309A.
- You must fill out and sign the paperwork to check out a key in person. If your resrvation is within normal business hours, you need to complete the paperwork in the main office 30 minutes before your reservation.
- If the reservation is for after business hours, then you must pick up the key by 4:00 PM of the day of your request and return it by 10:00 AM of the next business day.
- For weekend reservations: You must pick up the key by 4:00 PM of that Friday and return it by 10:00 AM of the following Monday.
Attending a Performance?
Thank you for joining us for a performance in the Black Box Theatre! Our performances are open for all to attend. Here are a few tips before joining us:
- Please plan to check in 30 minutes prior to the showing. The check in desk is located outside the Black Box theatre. Unchecked tickets are released to the general public ten minutes before showtime.
- Performances start at the stated showtime. There is no late seating.
- UNT's campus does not offer free parking at any time. You can purchase one-day parking from UNT Transportation here which is valid only in Eagle lots. However, we recommend parking in the public slots along West Hickory Street and walk to the GAB. Along West Hickory there is street parking in front of CVS/Jack In The Box/ Voertman's & Aura Coffee. Find a spot along that block and then walk towards the intersection of W. Hickory & Ave B.

Directions to the Black Box
The Communication Studies Black Box Theater is located on 225 S. Ave B Denton Tx 76201 in the General Academic Building room 321.
If you are not familiar with the UNT campus, navigating parking and directions can be a bit tricky so please give yourself plenty of time.
The easiest way is to park in the public slots along West Hickory Street and walk to the GAB. Along West Hickory there is street parking in front of CVS/Jack In The Box/ Voertman's & Aura Coffee. Find a spot along that block and then walk towards the intersection of W. Hickory & Ave B. From there it is a straight shot into campus and to the GAB. The Black Box is located on the third floor of the GAB in room 321.
