Congratulations to Andrew Davis, one of our newest faculty hires for UNTCOMM on the publication of his co-edited
collection, Better Stories: Mapping Cultural Studies with Lawrence Grossberg.
This 2025 anthology is filled with reflections on the bountiful contributions to the
fields of Communication and Cultural Studies (among others) made by Larry Grossberg, the Morris Davis Distinguished Professor of Communication at the University of North
Carolina. Upon Professor Grossberg’s retirement in 2022, legions of Larry’s former
students and colleagues gathered to pay tribute to his immense influence on their
lives individually, and more significantly, on the study of culture, power, and resistance
as generated through 50+ years of researching and teaching.
This edited volume includes 52 different forum-style pieces, each paying unique and
often personalized tribute to Professor Grossberg’s impact on Cultural Studies and
knowledge creation.
In addition to the labor of collaboratively editing this collection, Dr. Davis also
has a chapter in this book, “In Defense of Authority: Lawrence Grossberg and the Pedagogical Performance of Expertise.”
Published by Imbricate! Press, the book is also available via Open Access online.
Congratulations, Dr. Davis on your first publication while at UNTCOMM, and cheers
to Larry Grossberg for his many decades of dedicated teaching and research around
issues that are more relevant now than ever!
