DENTON, Texas (Sept. 29, 2025) — The University of North Texas Debate Team earned top honors at the Big Apple Debate Tournament in New York City, bringing home the Overall Sweepstakes Championship and numerous individual awards.

This year, 11 UNT students entered the competition, and 8 emerged with awards, reflecting both the depth and strength of the program.

  • Freddie Smith - Varsity Champion and 5th Overall Speaker
  • Jackson Jones - Varsity Quarterfinalist
