On November 1-2, UNT Debate hosted the 5th annual John S. Gossett Memorial Speech and Debate Tournament. While the competition was held this year at Guyer High School in Denton, the competition turned out to be just as fierce as ever. 42 different schools from the area attended with over 500 high school students competing in debate, individual events, and student congress. The overall sweepstakes winner was South Grand Prairie High School, with the Hockaday School taking the sweepstakes award in Debate. The Policy debate division was renamed this year to honor former UNT director Dr. Mark DeLoach. The first DeLoach Debate Champions were from the Caddo Magnet school from Shreveport, LA.
