Dr. Richardson and Laura Maninger's Recent Publication

Dr. Brian Richardson and former graduate student Laura Maninger recently learned their manuscript was accepted for publication in Southern Communication Journal. Their study, titled "We were all in the same boat:" An exploratory study of communal coping in disaster recovery", addresses the communal coping processes utilized by residents of a small town devastated by Hurricane Ike. Based upon their results, Richardson and Maninger argued that "community identity" should be added to existing communal coping models. "Our study revealed the importance of identifying with one's community when individuals are attempting to collectively cope with disaster recovery." Maninger, who received both her undergraduate and graduate degree from the department, is currently a law student at St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio.
