Dr. Richardson co-authors article addressing the challenges of school district communication during the COVID-19 pandemic

Dr. Brian Richardson recently published an article entitled "They masked our children": School district communication officers' sensemaking of parent activists during the COVID-19 pandemic" in the International Journal of Business Communication. Dr. Richardson's co-authors on the study were Dr. Samantha (Sam) Cosgrove of UNT's Technical Communication department, and Amnee Elkhalid, COMM alumna and current faculty member at the University of Arkansas. Their research addresses the precarious position school district public information officers (PIOs) found themselves in as they attempted to communicate important messages during a time of high uncertainty. Further, the authors investigated how the PIOs navigated the competing demands of key stakeholders, often finding themselves in a no-win situation.
